Tutorial - Water marble and gradient

Hello ladies, this is my first blog post, and it's a tutorial for my latest mani; a blue and white gradient with a blue and white watermarble accent finger :)

Step 1 - Watermarble

I used:
  • Sinful colors 'Snow Me White' (white polish)
  • Sinful colors 'Be Happy' (blue polish)
  • Sally Hansen 'Maximum Growth' (base coat)
  • Toothpick/orange stick
  • Cotton buds
  • Angled eyeliner brush (or what ever you use for cuticle clean up, I use an angled eyeliner brush)
  • A cup or bowl that you can get dirty (with nail polish)
  • Room temperature water
  • Masking tape
  • Sally Hansen 'Diamond Strength' topcoat
  • *Optional* rhinestone
  • Nail polish remover

Prepare your nails; push back cuticles,  then base coat your nails. After the base coat has dried, apply 2 coats of white polish to your nails. I always use white as undies for my watermarbles and gradients, so paint all of your nails white.

Fill your cup with room temperature water, and gather all your tools. Take your masking tape and wrap it around your finger like so:
Wrap a long piece of tape around the tip and  of your finger, and a shorter piece of tape near you cuticles. Doing this before water marbling will make cleaning up easier :)
With your nail polishes, open them so they are easily accessible. This is important so that the polish doesn't dry out in the water. Drop the polishes into the water, making sure that you touch the drop of polish onto the surface of the water, and not dipping the brush into the water. Alternate between the colors (blue, white, blue, white...) to create a bulls eye pattern in the water.

USING your toothpick/orange stick, drag the nail polish from the outermost ring towards the middle. Imagine it like cutting a cake (I didn't take any photos of me dragging the polish, sorry D:) except you cut the cake from the outside in. Cut it into eight slices. It should look like this:
REMOVE the tape from around you finger, and start cleaning! Lets start by using the cotton buds. Pour some nail polish remover into a small bowl or container, I used the lid of my nail polish remover bottle, and start cleaning. Do the same with the angled eyeliner brush around your cuticles. Add top coat, and you're done!

*OPTIONAL* Add a rhinestone to the middle of the flower while your top coat is still wet.

Step 2 - Gradient

I used:
  • Foundation sponge
  • Sinful colors 'Snow Me White' (white polish)
  • Sinful colors 'Be Happy' (blue polish)
  • Angled eyeliner brush
  • Sally Hansen 'Maximum Growth' (base coat)
  • Cotton bud
  • Nail polish remover
  • Sally Hansen 'Diamond Strength' topcoat

YOUR nails should be painted white from step 1
Open the 2 bottles of nail polish (white and blue) so that they are easily accessible. Paint two strips of nail polish, one blue and one white, onto the foundation sponge.

DAB the sponge onto your nail. Make sure that the blue strip is dabbed on at the tip of the nail. Do this in a rolling motion, tilting the sponge side to side on the nail. Do this many times until you are satisfied with how it looks.

NOW to the clean up. Again, start with the cotton bud, then move to the angled eyeliner brush. After cleaning around your cuticles, topcoat your art work so that the colors blend into each other. I like to double topcoat for a smoother surface :)

Thanks for reading!
